Sufetula, at Sbeitla in the central steppes, grew from the 1st century AD into a Roman colony, then a bishopric and a Byzantine stronghold. Its forum, entered through a triple arch, ends in three separate Capitol temples, and the site also has churches with mosaic baptisteries, baths, a theatre and a museum.
