Open-air water reservoirs built outside the walls of Kairouan in 860-862 under the Aghlabid prince Abu Ibrahim Ahmad. They combine a settling pool, a large storage pool and draw-off cisterns, and rank among the best-known hydraulic works of the early Islamic world.
